Taco Seasoning Recipe

Who doesn't love tacos? I make taco meat for tacos/nachos/quesadillas all the time because of how easy it is and I typically have all the ingredients I need on hand.

I want to share my taco seasoning recipe because it's a simple switch anyone can make that results in healthier, tastier and cheaper eating. Also, for my mom because she has asked for my recipe a couple times now and I figured it was best when asked to write it down and share here!

Taco seasoning packets are often made with maltodextrin, MSG, emulsifier's, natural flavors, sugars and even canola, soybean and vegetable oils. Which are all things you want to avoid when switching to a traditional or whole foods lifestyle. The idea is sourcing from the freshest foods possible. Our bodies work extra hard to process anything that ISN'T food made to fuel our bodies.

There are some reputable brands out there like Siete for example. (https://sietefoods.com/) They use dates instead of sugar in their Taco Seasoning and their ingredients I can stand by. I still always prefer using my own because it's better, fresher and I personally don't prefer the sweetness in my seasoning. Once you realize just HOW simple it is to use your own seasoning -- you will understand why it's not worth buying premade anymore.

And that goes for all packaged seasonings. I can't remember the last time I bought any seasoning packaged and premade.

This recipe is enough for 1.5- 2 lbs of meat, depending on how much flavor you want. For convenience sake, I like to make this in bulk and have it on hand when needed.

Taco Seasoning Mix:

All organic spices*

Salt and pepper to taste (when pre making seasonings, I never add salt or pepper because I like to do that to taste before seasoning)

1 TBSP - Cumin or Cumin Seed if you have that on hand

1 TBSP - Chili Powder

1/2 TBSP - Paprika

1/2 TBSP - Garlic Powder

1/2 TBSP - Onion Powder

1/2 tsp - Parsley or Cilantro flakes

Cayenne Pepper (As much as you like spicy or you can opt out of this one)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in and bottle or use immediately.

Boom. That's it.

Hope you enjoy some tacos this week :)
